What You’ll Do:
Responsible for preventative maintenance and repairs of truck/trailer refrigeration and air conditioning (reefer) units. Conducts general and non-scheduled maintenance, including inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing components and systems.

  • Perform all levels of maintenance services, with primary focus on refrigeration units such as Thermo King and/or Carrier commercial trailer refrigeration equipment.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, refrigerant, and electrical problems related to reefer systems (single & multi-temp), including engine, cooling, heating and on board computer modules; read complex schematics associated with reefer equipment.
  • Perform repairs and diagnostics on starting and charging system, complex cooling and re-charge, and electrical, including common fault codes. Repairs may include leak detection procedures, compressor replacements, rebuilding throttling valves, soldering refrigerant lines, evaporator/condenser replacements and front main engine seal replacements.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order.
  • Use hand and/or power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment and jacks/hoists to perform repairs and maintenance on trailers and reefer units in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Identify and obtain necessary replacement parts as needed to execute repairs; inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Perform both Truck and Trailer Preventative Maintenance and DOT inspections as needed.
  • Stay abreast of changes in reefer system technology; attend training courses deemed necessary by the Company.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:
Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • 2-4 years of hands-on Reefer Technician experience required.
  • A Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program with a transport refrigerant course may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.

Skills/Certifications

  • EPA Refrigeration Universal 608 and 609 certifications required (Type II).
  • Carrier Introduction and Thermo King Basic courses required.
  • Valid driver’s license required; valid CDL license with Air Brake Certification preferred.
  • Training certifications in Heavy Duty Truck Trailer repair, such as ASE, preferred.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and follow refrigeration and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in the use of all necessary tools of the trade required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Must provide and use basic hand and air tools to complete repair tasks.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements—Repair Shop Settings
